With the rapid move for so many companies toward the cloud, there is an increase focus on some of the barriers companies have identified as keeping them from comfortably making the transition. This is especially true in the small- to medium-sized business (SMB) sector as the public cloud can be an intimidating place.

AMAX is one company that is presenting solutions that could be a game changer for the SMB looking toward the cloud. TMCnet’s Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) recently spoke with Matt Thauberger, sales manager with AMAX, to learn what the company is doing in this space. Their conversation was captured in this video.

As a company, AMAX has been in business for over 30 years. AMAX is a technology based company based out of Fremont, CA (News - Alert), and offers corporate technology solutions for the manufacturing sector, as well as turnkey solutions.

A newer focus for AMAX is providing technology to assist SMBs in their move to the cloud. At Interop (News - Alert), the company launched the CloudMax product, a series of appliances geared toward many different market verticals. According to Thauberger, it is a total solution that offers  hardware, software, virtualization, networking, etc.

“What we saw with the cloud when we developed the product was that small and medium sized businesses were forced to go to the public cloud, but they were anxious about the cost, complexity and fear of the cloud,” said Thauberger. “So, when we looked at this product, we wanted to develop something that would address the cost and complexity and bring in a secure solution that would go into a small or medium-sized offering would scale so that when the company grows, it can also grow with them.”

As for competition, Thauberger shared that the company’s market research has shown that there are not a lot of companies offering a total appliance solution geared toward the SMB to develop a private cloud. “We are in a niche that could be successful and one that the market needs,” he said.

At a size of 300 employees and with offices in China, California and Texas, AMAX (News - Alert) has been operating in the cloud space for about four years. The company started with their foot in the hardware side of things, and the latest release is an appliance as it also has a cloud base. To know more, visitors are encouraged to view www.amax.com and go to cloud series.

When asked if AMAX is planning on offering more appliances to help customers as cloud computing grows, Thauberger noted this is definitely in the cards. He also stressed that the private cloud they create pulls the appliance back in and relieves the anxiety a lot of companies have when moving their data outside of their firewall.
