DotCloud, a Platform as a Service (PaaS) company that supports multiple development and database stacks, has acquired Duostack, a San Francisco-based PaaS innovator.

Officials wih DotCloud said that as part of the acquisition, the company will now support MongoDB, bringing this popular “NoSQL” database to the cloud as a native part of the DotCloud platform.

According to company officials, DotCloud provides a new kind of PaaS that allows developers to build apps using range of development or database stacks, while maintaining a consistent runtime and management environment.

Company officials said that DotCloud, delivered as a service in the cloud, allows developers and companies to build and run apps without having to buy or manage servers and infrastructure.

With just a few simple commands, developers can create complete cloud deployments of the most popular stack components, including PHP, Ruby, Python, Perl, Java, Node.JS, MySQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, Solr, and PostgreSQL. "DotCloud's overall mission will be further reinforced with David and the Duostack developer community coming on board. And, with support for MongoDB, our collective users will see immediate benefits from this acquisition," said Solomon Hykes, CEO of DotCloud, in a statement.

"DotCloud and Duostack share a vision of unleashing the creativity and productivity of developers, free from the constraints of hardware and infrastructure, and together we can deliver on that promise more quickly," said Hykes.

David Chen, founder and CEO of Duostack said that DotCloud and Duostack were founded with the same premise – to fundamentally change how developers can take advantage of the cloud.

"Joining forces with DotCloud will allow us to work closely on making our shared vision a reality for all developers," said Chen.

MongoDB is one of the most popular new database technologies to emerge in years, and is already in use at FourSquare, bit.ly, The New York Times and many other organizations.

"We are extremely pleased that DotCloud is supporting MongoDB," said Roger Bodamer, EVP of Technology and Products at 10gen, creators of MongoDB.

Bodamer said that DotCloud's Platform as a Service provides a simple and streamlined way for developers and IT organizations to deploy MongoDB.
