Cloud Adoption Surges Forward Thanks to Dedicated Cloud Providers

When it comes to the cloud, there is no stopping its reign. From private to public to hybrid cloud models, it seems that all organizations – from the small to the large – are lining up to purchase their ticket to the cloud train and this adoption is only going to continue burgeon as companies begin to really understand the opportunities it affords.

One of the main irrefutable benefits of the cloud is its ability to help organizations enjoy cost savings. While corporate servers are estimated to run at only 15 percent capacity and have exorbitant associated maintenance costs, cloud technology allows companies to save money by removing these servers and the costs associated with them. By placing servers in the cloud, companies can enjoy a consumption-based model, paying only for the space that they use.

Moreover, the cloud gives companies great scalability options primarily because it’s offline. The cloud offers virtually unlimited storage compared to servers and hard drives and, thus, everyone from the smallest SMB to the largest enterprise can deploy cloud services.

“Cloud infrastructure is en fuego – it’s on fire!” Jack Duffy, vice president of sales, north America, for CloudSigma, told TMCnet at Interop (News - Alert) 2012. “It’s moving fast; it’s moving rapid. What we are seeing now is the adoption moving up market in to much more mission critical applications. Security is still somewhat of a concern but there are a lot of security applications and solutions that have come into market so the obstacles for adoption are no longer there.”

And for CloudSigma, rapid cloud adoption couldn’t have come at a better time as the company stands ready to help companies migrate to the cloud.

According to Duffy, the Swizz-based company distinguishes itself in several ways, most importantly because of the face that it built its infrastructure off of the KVM hypervisor, not the Xen or any of the others. This move has allowed CloudSigma to get new services, new products, and new pricing models at a higher level of security to market much quicker, Duffy said.

Moreover, the company hangs its hat on its ability to help companies quickly and seamlessly migrate existing applications to the cloud.

“Just last week a VoIP customer of ours wanted to migrate a specific application to the cloud and they said they kept delaying and delaying it and I said, ‘Why are you delaying it?’” Duffy said. “They said, ‘We have to talk to our vendor to help write some scripts to do that’ and I said, ‘Have you tried to move it?’ Fifteen minutes later he was up and running with that application on our infrastructure.”

So does Duffy predict that cloud interest will only continue to surge moving forward? He certainly does.

“Everybody is talking about the explosive growth of the cloud, but if you had to net it out there are probably two motivating factors that are driving it,” he said. “One is the cost. Everybody is focused on moving from Capex to Opex. The other aspect of it is time to market.”
