YouTube (News - Alert) is home to more than vBlogs, 80’s cartoons, funny advertisements and songs set to still images of trees. It also has become an adjunct to many news websites and institutions, offering up meaty educational programming worthy of a college classroom as well as a more visual way to satisfy your appetite for all of the latest tech news.

In light of this, here are 10 YouTube channels as suggested by a recent GFI blog which every techie should consider after blowing through all of Natalie Tran’s Community Channel skits.

1.      NerdHelpDesk’s Channel. A stash of more than 370 videos, the NerdHelpDesk covers everything from trends, technology reviews and console modifications to the latest hardware.

2.      UCBerkeley. There’s a reason why the University of California at Berkeley is one of the world’s top universities, and it ain’t just because it has a kicking food scene and digs near Silicon Valley. The UCBerkeley channel lets the DIY student partake in thousands of videos on both hard and soft science topics.

3.      Scobleizer. Robert Scoble is an undisputed king of tech trend reporting, and his YouTube channel shows off some of the best new technologies across a range of fields. Unlike most YouTube channels, he covers his topics in depth – a 20 minute video is short for Scoble, but you will find yourself wanting even more despite the unconventional length.

4.      O’Reilly Media. Do we really need to tell you about O’Reilly? You love their tech books; now love their interviews, presentations and how-to videos.

5.      TechWebTV. From the journalists and pundits at Information Week, TechWebTV covers news, information and commentary on technology in a hard-news style that’s not always common on YouTube. Learn from them vBloggers (also learn from Natalie Tran)!

6.      The Motherboard HomeWorld. When it comes to computer performance testing, unboxings and reviews of the latest PC hardware and peripherals, it is hard to beat The Motherboard HomeWorld.

7.      MIT (News - Alert) TechTV. The preeminent technology university serves up a boatload of lectures, interviews, keynotes and other presentations on a multitude of topics. When paired with MIT’s (News - Alert) OpenCourseWare, there’s a lot of learning to be done without the need for a Pell Grant.

8.      Lifehacker. While some will take options like MIT’s OpenCourseWare and hack their own education, others prefer more mundane hacks such as how to fold ear-buds so they never tangle and how to make the perfect litter box. Lifehacker’s video component resides on this YouTube channel.

9.      Tekzilla. From the folks who used to bring you Screensavers and other great ZDTV/TechTV videos comes this YouTube channel featuring the latest technology products, tips, tricks and HDTV reviews.

10. The Gadget Show. There’s more than just Natalie Tran producing good YouTube content across the pond (have I worn you down yet? You really haven’t checked out Community Channel yet?). The Gadget Show, served up from England and one of the UK’s best television shows, gives viewers what TalkTechToMe calls “Top Gear, but for geeks.”

So go check out these 10 tech YouTube tools, and while you’re at it, check out all of GFI’s award-winning IT software and hosted services for network security, e-mail security and management, and Web monitoring and security for small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) by visiting www.gfi.com.
