GFI Sounds Off: 'Antivirus Alone is Not Enough'

GFI Software is well-known for its security solutions for small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs). Today, with the ever-increasing amount of communications channels (ie. mobile phones, social networks and traditional communications platforms), these companies in particular can face some drastic security threats and/or gaps.

Consider the bring your own device (BYOD) trend. “All market segments are struggling to rein in and secure the explosion of mobile devices onboarding their networks as a result of [this] phenomenon,” Stefanie Hoffman (News - Alert) from Channel Nomics explains, and these security pains are most delicately felt by the SMB, according to GFI.

The company continues to work to fill these blanks with what Hoffman describes as a “three-fold solution,” combining antivirus patch management and mobile device management – all ideally suited for and targeted at the SMB. This solution – VIPRE Business Premium – is looking to become the new industry standard, as it boasts seriously impressive features that address bigger and more comprehensive security challenges faced by all market segments, but of course, specifically the SMB, the article explains.

One market to constantly stay one step ahead of is network and communications security and management, which GFI knows very well, as elaborated by General Manager of GFI’s security business, Mark Patton (News - Alert).

“Truth of the matter is, antivirus is not enough, antivirus alone is not enough,” says Patton. “We knew it was time to expand out of antivirus, and introduce some new technology. This is quantum leap, our customers don’t want antivirus, they want security.”

VIPRE Business Premium ultimately works as an end-all solution; its multifaceted capabilities enable its partners to renew entry and rejuvenate security conversations with their SMB customers by directly addressing their security challenges with one single solution, Hoffman notes. “Specifically, that means an opportunity to dust off patch management education and consulting services – a topic generally not top of mind for SMBs –  aimed at raising awareness about zero day threats and other browser based exploits delivered via outdated and unlatched software.”

While families across the U.S. prepare to carve their turkeys on Thanksgiving Day, GFI continues to carve out and strengthen its spot in the SMB security market.
