Cloud Management Software Provider OnApp, NetForecast Team to Host Webinar

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Opening its doors back in July of 2010, OnApp powers a robust portfolio of CDN and storage services for companies all over the world. The company’s OnApp Cloud is a widely deployed cloud management software platform, ideal for hosts and service providers, while the OnApp CDN is a CDN platform designed from the ground up specifically for them.

OnApp Storage is a cost-effective distributed SAN for cloud environments.

Today, the cloud management provider will be joining hands with NetForecast to hold a not-to-miss event slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. EDT that dissects the ways in which leveraging CDN services can give you a dramatic leg up over other cloud providers, as well as drive revenue.

“CDNs enable companies to bring Web content and applications closer to their customers and end users, so pages load faster, shopping baskets update quicker, and applications respond more rapidly,” according to company officials. “With such clear benefits for CDN users, it’s a lucrative market for hosting providers who offer this service - one that’s predicted to grow to $4.7 billion by 2015, according to Global Industry Analysts."

Presenting during the conference will be Rebecca Wetzel, a principal at NetForecast who will highlight important results from a newly published report titled, “Going for the Edge: Why Hosting Providers Should Offer CDN Services.”  These findings detail the advantages and disadvantages seen when entering the CDN market in addition to the increasingly popular trend of CDNs being based on federated cloud infrastructure.

OnApp’s CMO Kosten Metreweli (News - Alert) will also be speaking during the informative session, discussing best practices and case studies that pertain to federated CDNS.

“The ants in the Internet ant hill are beginning to pull together to compete on a more even footing against Goliaths like Amazon Web Services (News - Alert),” Wetzel stated. “We see an innovative business model—one that federates cloud service providers to offer CDN service over federation members’ infrastructure…anywhere.”

Back in June, Onapp unveiled new pricing details for OnApp Storage. Currently, OnApp Storage is in public beta testing, with around 340 cloud providers and enterprises participating. With the goal of finishing the beta test by the end of Q3 2012, pricing for the standalone version will reportedly be based upon a “pay-as-you-grow” model.
