American tech company CSC (News - Alert), a provider of consulting, systems integration and design, and IT and business process outsourcing, has set its eyes on The Great White North and its mission – which has already been accepted – is to accelerate the speed of private cloud adoption in Canada.

Accordingly, CSC revealed recently that it is expanding its cloud services to Canada by making available its BizCloud product, which is touted for being able to unify the best that both public and private clouds have to offer. The company refers to its offering as “the first on-premise private cloud billed as a service and ready for workloads in 10 weeks.” And, the overarching goal of the solution is simple – help governments and businesses more quickly adopt private cloud deployments.

“Cloud computing has tremendous promise in Canada,” IDC (News - Alert) Canada’s Mark Schrutt said in a statement. “Up to this point, many Canadian businesses have been sitting on the sideline waiting for in-Canada solutions. IDC’s research finds that 60 percent of buyers prefer in-Canada IaaS offerings.”

As put by company officials, BizCloud offers customers the best of both public and private cloud worlds as it guarantees the privacy, security and control of a private cloud along with the agility, convenience and commercial model of a public cloud. By turning to BizCloud, government agencies and businesses can get up and running with their private clouds quickly as BizCloud eliminates lengthy capital acquisition cycles. Moreover, as opposed to do-it-yourself private clouds, where multiple components are acquired and then integrated, BizCloud is based on fully integrated VCE Vblock and comes stocked with a service catalogue, chargeback methodology and automation to simplify management and orchestration, officials said.

Initially launched in the United States in February 2011 and available in Europe, Australia and Asia, BizCloud is a VMware vCloud Datacenter Service that equips users with all the necessary components for deploying a private cloud that is preconfigured, integrated and tested, on their premises and behind their firewall.

“By leveraging a converged infrastructure platform and solutions from VCE, CSC is helping clients in Canada exploit the business and economic advantages of a cloud-based infrastructure,” said Todd Pavone, executive vice president, VCE. “With our combined expertise and leadership, VCE and CSC are working together to accelerate data center transformations.”

When it comes to private cloud management, there is another player in the space that knows a thing or two about maintaining a competitive edge, Adaptive Computing. Adaptive Computing manages the world’s largest computing installations with its Moab self-optimizing cloud management and HPC workload management solutions.  The patented Moab multi-dimensional decision engine delivers policy-based governance, allowing customers to consolidate resources, allocate and manage services, optimize service levels and reduce operational costs.

Recently, the company showed that it still knows how to emerge as the cool kid on campus as the provider of private cloud management solutions announced that two universities have tapped its Moab architecture to expand their HPC capabilities. And at both the University of Warwick (News - Alert) and the University of Birmingham, the word around campus is about the advantages being brought forth thanks to Adaptive Computing.

“We are pleased to be able to help our clients more efficiently utilize their HPC systems,” Rob Clyde, CEO of Adaptive Computing commented. “This is especially important in an academic environment, where the ability to schedule more projects means important discoveries reach the world sooner.”
