A Gray man facing charges of robbing the A & B Quick Stop near East Bernstadt Dec. 19 made his first appearance before Chief District Judge John Paul Chappell in Laurel County District Court Thursday.
Christopher Disney, 33, will now appear before a grand jury in Laurel County Circuit Court Jan. 15.
During court proceedings Thursday, it was said that Disney was not the one responsible for the armed robbery. Questions were also brought up concerning surveillance video.
According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, an unknown suspect entered the convenience store on KY 3434 armed with a semi-automatic pistol and robbed the unidentified clerk of an undisclosed amount of cash. He fled the parking lot in a dark-colored vehicle.
Root said a tip on Dec. 21 led Laurel Sheriff's Detective Daryl Zanet, Knox Deputy Roy Gambrel and Chief Deputy Eddy Sizemore to a location near Sam Parker Road in Knox County, where deputies discovered the gun allegedly used during the robbery. The suspect continued to be on the run and was considered armed and dangerous.
Deputies located surveillance video which showed photos of the potential suspect, which was released to the public.
The picture released was of Disney, who turned himself in Christmas Eve to Gambrel, who held him until Laurel Deputy Josh Scott arrived to transport him back to London. Zanet arrested him in London.
