Raleigh teen charged in YouTube break-in faces new burglary counts

RALEIGH, Jan 09, 2013 (The News & Observer (Raleigh - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 17-year-old Broughton High School student accused of a Dec. 29 burglary captured on a YouTube video now faces charges in connection with a New Year's Eve break-in in the same neighborhood.

Qushawn Dy'antay Newsome was charged Tuesday with second-degree burglary and larceny, the same charges lodged against him in connection with the break-in that was captured on a home video system and posted on YouTube in hopes of generating leads for police.

The video has been watched more than 2 million times. Police said photos they made from the video and distributed internally led them to Newsome and his 20-year-old brother, Kadarius Newsome of Roxboro, who also was charged with the burglary on Dec. 29.

Qushawn Newsome, who lives at 405 Starrett Court in Raleigh, less than a mile from the burglary scenes, is accused of breaking into another house between 6:30 and 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 and taking a digital camera, a 40-inch television, three laptop computers and liquor, all valued at $6,400.

The two break-ins happened about five blocks apart in the Caraleigh neighborhood.

Newsome's bail on the new charges was set at $35,000 and he remained in the Wake Detention Center.

Kadarius Newsome remained in custody Wednesday on a $15,000 bail in the Dec. 29 case.
