BRIEF: Cellular Dynamics to add GMP process [The Wisconsin State Journal]
(Wisconsin State Journal (Madison, WI) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Jan. 17--Cellular Dynamics International plans to create banks of human induced pluripotent stem cells from five donors using good manufacturing practices, or GMP, the company announced Thursday.
The super-clean GMP process enables cells to be used in clinical trials, so the development is a potential milestone in leading to human therapies.
CDI, of Madison, said it plans to create the iPS cell banks from blood samples drawn from five people who have been previous blood or tissue donors. The donors are being selected for having tissue types that should match many unrelated recipients.
