CP NewsAlert: Small wireless carrier Wind Mobile to be foreign owned
(Canadian Press DataFile Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TORONTO _ Small wireless carrier Wind Mobile has signed a deal to transfer its ownership and control to a global telecom company. The deal requires regulatory approval and comes after recent changes to Canadian telecom rules allowing companies with less than 10 per cent of the telecom market to have no restrictions on foreign investment. Wind Mobile chairman and CEO Anthony Lacavera says the deal is with VimpelCom subsidiary Orascom, which already owns part of Wind and was an original financial backer of the company.
