PathCentral Appoints Noted Pathologist Greg Henderson to Serve as Chief Medical Advisor of New Digital Pathology Network
IRVINE, Calif. --(Business Wire)--
PathCentral (www.pathcentral.net),
a technology-enabled company dedicated to the success of the pathology
community, today announced that Gregory Henderson, M.D., Ph.D., will
serve as Chief Medical Advisor for the company's comprehensive new
online information exchange and digital consultation forum, the
PathCentral Pathology Network (www.pathcentralpro.net).
Launching March 4, the PathCentral Pathology Network represents the
industry's first open, cloud-based platform, harnessing all the
technologies of digital imaging, social media, and laboratory
information system functionality under one virtual roof. The PathCentral
Pathology Network will enable physicians to upload case files using
digital images for pathologists to review and render critical consulting
diagnoses on both a global and a domestic real-time basis. In terms of
scanning technology and imaging software, the Network is agnostic and
designed to be non-exclusive in its use.
Henderson, who has dedicated much of his recent professional career to
advancing digital pathology consultation on a global scale, has become a
recognized leader in applying digital pathology technology to serve
populations in developing countries. Now actively engaged in
awarenes-building from within the pathology community, Henderson is an
enthusiastic advocate for digital consultation, principally for
physicians and hospitals in areas that currently lack access to
world-class digital scanning technology and pathology expertise.
In his role as Chief Medical Advisor, Henderson will help guide the
development of pathology consultant relationships, create a training and
monitoring program to support the efficacy of digital pathology over
glass slide analysis, inspire IT development from the pathology user
vantage point, and serve as a thought leader for the promise of digital
pathology throughout the medical community.
"As a champion for the humanitarian potential offered by remote clinical
diagnostics, Dr. Henderson will help bring to fruition our vision of
creating a comprehensive online information exchange that hospitals,
doctors and pathologists can access from every corner of the globe,"
said Jaye Connolly, CEO of PathCentral. "Our company has long pioneered
cloud-hosted solutions for the pathology community, through our Anatomic
Pathology Laboratory Information Systems (APLIS) technology - and with
the creation of the Network, we are able to merge that state-of-the-art
technology with the power of the social network."
"The time is right for technology, operating via the cloud, to foster a
conversation within the global pathology community," Henderson said.
"The PathCentral Pathology Network will build on that conversation and
make the interchange transactional. We're integrating technologies to
assist pathologists in their daily operation and help them connect on an
entirely new level with their pathologist colleagues worldwide. I'm
absolutely delighted to be part of this powerful next wave in medical
diagnostics."
Henderson is particularly excited about the impact of this technology on
developing countries without access to world-class diagnostic
capabilities. "This is visionary medicine at its best," he said. "The
beauty of the PathCentral network is that doctors on the ground in
remote parts of the world will be able to link up with a quality
pathologist partner, look at and analyze their patients' medical
situations from different dimensions, and then effectively direct
patient care in the way that it easily can and should be managed using
these tools. What we are looking at is a true sea change in global
diagnostics that will transform patient care on a massive scale."
