Gigamon (News - Alert), a provider of traffic visibility networking solutions, had quite a record year in 2011, according to company officials, from experiencing significant revenue growth due to increased demand for its traffic visibility solutions to doubling its workforce to receiving accolades from multiple companies.
So how was Gigamon able to accomplish all of this? By continuing to differentiate itself in the marketplace, according to Paul Hooper, vice president of marketing for Gigamon.
“Gigamon created the Traffic Visibility market in 2005 by delivering an innovative solution to a pervasive and increasingly challenging issue faced by Enterprises and Service Providers around the globe,” Hooper told TMCnet. “Starting with this initial solution, we have continuously led the market by delivering first-to-market solutions, technologies and platforms that address real and tangible business requirements.”
“Our most recent solution – the Visibility Fabric – is unique in the market with its ability to intelligently manage traffic flows to ensure that relevant traffic is delivered to management, monitoring and security systems across the enterprise, data center or service provider environment,” he added. “We delivered the first and only Terabit platform that provides our customers with the confidence that as their traffic volumes scale, their Visibility Fabric scales in parallel.”
Founded seven years ago, Gigamon has evolved from its original goal of becoming a disruptive technology innovator to becoming a “visionary market leader” that can deliver solutions that provider clear visibility into network traffic, officials explained.
That transition has been noticed as Gigamon was recognized this year by the Red Herring magazine for its success and contribution to the industry when it was named a Top 100 Global Technology Innovator following a prior Top 100 North America Technology Innovator award that Gigamon received earlier in 2011.
Another crowning achievement for 2011 was Gigamon’s record revenue growth. This was largely accomplished because as the volume of traffic increases rapidly and the associated compliance requirements continue to expand, so does the demand for Gigamon’s Visibility Fabric. In 2011, the company continued its trend of delivering year-over-year growth approaching 50 percent – a trend that it established soon after the company was founded.
In 2011, Gigamon delivered record revenue in Q3 and expects Q4 to be the company’s highest revenue quarter since inception. Looking ahead, the company expects to grow the workforce in 2012 as it responds to increasing demand for its solutions and technology, according to company officials.
One trend that is sure to help Gigamon continue to achieve record revenues and grow is the widespread adoption of cloud. According to Hooper, whether its private, public or hybrids clouds, cloud storage, cloud communications or cloud computing, cloud offers enterprise IT a new level of agility, flexibility and cost optimization, while also offering service providers the potential of new service offerings for their current and future customers.
“As enterprises migrate to the cloud, one of the bigger hurdles – and resistance barriers – to overcome, is the reduced level of control and visibility after information and applications are moved from the confines of the private data center into the public and virtualized cloud,” he said. “At Gigamon we see this as being a significant opportunity; our focus and vision is to allow our customers to 'bridge the gap' between the world of physical and static infrastructure into the world of dynamic and highly mobile environments.”
Aside from taking advantage of cloud offerings, what else can we expect Gigamon in the coming yers?
“We are currently global; we operate in over 40 countries and we are proud to call a good percentage of the Fortune 1000 our customers,” Hooper said. “We see these as solid building blocks that will allow us to scale our presence around the globe, to scale our revenue and results, and to scale our technology and solution. We believe that traffic visibility is a significant market and growing in excess of 50 percent year over year, with the growth being driven by the ongoing demands for security and compliance compounded by the rise in the deployment of virtualized solutions in parallel with the wave of user and application mobility. We are confident in our solution, and are confident that we will remain in the leadership position of this market with over 70 percent share in this exciting, relevant and disruptive segment.”
