The TMC headquarters enjoyed a visit from Fonality’s (News - Alert) new CEO, David Scult, this week, and Scult shed some light onto where the company has been moving in the last few years, and where it’s looking to go.
Having come most directly from Microsoft (News
- Alert) where he served as general manager for Office365, Scult brings a unique set of experiences to the Fonality table, including 15 years at large software companies and 15 years at startups. Scult noted in an interview that out of his time spent at Microsoft, he enjoyed overseeing the migration to the cloud, and he gained an understanding of what is needed to run a cloud-based business.
Scult has made the move to Fonality to lead the team full steam ahead in several capacities, one of which is to streamline the sales processes. “We have five different brand products – all with the same core switch at the center, but those five brands, plus the Fonality brand, don’t make it easy for a prospect to find us or to buy from us,” noted Scult.
He continued, “The company has done itself a disservice by not consolidating brands as the company’s evolved. We’re looking to bring everything together and sell the vision and value of a VoIP-based phone system that has a rich set of micro call center features and mobile UC features.”
Scult conveyed a desire to focus Fonality’s current “portfolio approach” into a more simplified process for its existing and potential customers.
Industry observers will no doubt watch Fonality move more business to the cloud, but Scult made a point of noting that the company does not want to completely move away from the notion of the on-premise solution. The goal is not to keep convincing the customers that the cloud is better, but it will be which method of deployment for the cloud is the best.
Ultimately, Scult looks forward to being a part of a solid team with a solid product. “At heart I’m a technologist. At the core of Fonality there is a really great piece of technology,” he said.
