Belden Adds SFP+ Direct Attached Cables to its Line of Data Center Solutions

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Belden has expanded its line of data center solutions with SFP+ Direct Attached Cables designed to provide a cost-effective way to deliver more bandwidth in data centers.

The company said that it provides everything that is needed to optimize the effectiveness of cabling infrastructure -- including the solution to today’s most pressing Data Center efficiency issues: efficiently cooling the IT load, managing the use of power and optimizing the use of available space.

Company officials said that Belden’s unique systems approach to efficiency issues and its blend of cooling, power and density technologies help maximize processing capacity while minimizing Data Center’s footprint and operational costs.

The latest offering, the SFP+ Direct Attached Cables, deliver lower power and latency with higher density. For top-of-rack and middle-of-rack data center deployments, the company is positioning these SFP+ cables as a low cost alternative to traditional fiber and twisted-pair copper cabling.

Company officials said that SFP+ Direct Attached Cables are manufactured with Belden Lightskew series cable to meet the stringent signal transmission performance requirements. Belden Lightskew series cable offers intra-pair delay skew as low as 10ps/m, silver-plated conductors, aluminum/Mylar foil and tinned copper braiding and an FT4/CL2-rated PVC jacket.

Moreover, the zinc die-cast connectors with easy pull-to-release action are compatible with virtually all SFP+ Direct Attached compliant devices. Company officials said that as Belden offers SFP+ Direct Attached Cables in one-foot increments, cable management in high-density applications is “significantly” simplified with less slack and easier reconfigurations.

St. Louis-based Belden designs, manufactures, and markets cable, connectivity, and networking products in markets including industrial automation, enterprise, transportation, infrastructure, and consumer electronics.

Earlier this month, the company announced a program to design, install, configure and increase the Ethernet infrastructure for companies with a certification of performance and reliability, according to the company’s benchmarks.
