Next week at Cisco Live in London, power distribution, measurement and monitoring solutions provider Server Technology, Inc., will demonstrate new data center solutions to power high density blade servers like Cisco's (News - Alert) Unified Computing System (UCS).
"We've developed a number of new solutions to help data center design engineers, application engineers and data center managers power Cisco's UCS," said Brandon Ewing, president of Server Technology (News - Alert), in a statement. "The new products we're showing are uniquely designed for data center environments with high-density blade servers, including a new cabinet power distribution unit (CDU) specifically for Cisco's Nexus 7000 chassis," continued Ewing.
According to Server Technology, it’s CDU units can help lower data center infrastructure costs for each server cabinet in the data center. "Our products are designed to reduce the number of power drops, CDUs and power cords necessary – all leading to improved cooling in the cabinet with less equipment interfering with air flow, better efficiency and lower capital costs for the data center," asserted Ewing.
Further commenting on this new product development, Ewing added, "Data centers today want to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) and increase their business agility. We have the power management solutions to power Cisco's next-generation UCS data center platform."
Cisco's UCS combines virtualization, storage access, computing and network into a complete solution. Server Technology said that the CDUs are designed to provide a number of benefits that allow data center professionals to better monitor and manage their operation including remote viewing of power utilization and environmental conditions, e-mail alert notification if cabinet conditions exceed pre-set thresholds, local LED's per branch circuit or phase providing easy-to-read displays to determine if the load is balanced and visual indication that power is supplied to the CDU. Plus, it enables environmental measurements for temperature and humidity and local and remote notification if a branch circuit is lost, the manufacturer said.
