When Advent Software (News - Alert) – a leading provider of mission-critical applications designed to meet the demands of investment management operations – approached Server Technology, it was looking for a little help with monitoring its data center power after hours.
In addition, the company was looking for redundancy, remote access, environmental monitoring, alerts/alarms, three-phase power distribution, and space/capacity planning and management. Fortunately for Advent, data center power monitoring company Server Technology (News - Alert) had the solution.
“We were building a new data center. As I was working on the design for intelligent data center, I researched the latest in power and cooling, as well as ways to be energy efficient. Server Technology’s CDUs were the best suited for environmental monitoring,” Pete Castiglione of Advent Software told TMCnet.
“Originally, we had other company’s basic units,” he added. “Then, we made the jump to Server Technology’s intelligent units; I saw a huge difference in the information I could get to make decisions about my data center.”
Advent deployed Server Technology’s 52 CS-54VDYs, Sentry Power Manager (SPM), and EMTH units, a total solution that helps Advent manage its rack level power in the data center.
With its new units, Advents can get the trending it needs, enjoy remote access, have a view into its servers and make bulk changes on a level that it never had before, according to Castiglione. Moreover, by placing Server Technology environmental monitors in its data center, Advent now receives alerts when its data center is getting too hot after hours and, accordingly, the company can act appropriately before the problem worsens.
“These CDUs are the best I’ve ever used and they’re simple to configure,” Castiglione said.
“I use SPM every day,” he added. “It’s a great tool to give me insights on my network and power usage. I particularly like the trending and graphing. I use SPM to give me information as I make changes in my data center – adding fans, equipment, moving equipment around – it lets me know if I’m making things better or worse.”
Server Technology’s data center power monitoring tools also allow Advent to get a single view of its entire network – which spans from Stockholm to London to Boston to San Francisco – all through the SPM.
And the perks just keep on coming for Advent when it comes to Server Technology units.
“We just deployed Server Technology’s high end power strips in all of our new offices. These are great products. The benefits far outweigh the price,” Castiglione said. “I now have the granular power information I need to make key decisions. I use the environmental sensors throughout my data center.”
“If you have a high end data center, you need high end CDUs. It only makes sense,” he added. “Server Technology products work as designed – they’re very dependable and I rely on the information I get from SPM and the CDUs”
