There’s a cool new group at Server Technology (News - Alert), a leading provider of data center power distribution products, that is garnering a lot of interest from employees – and it’s not just those engineers who are busily concocting the next great PDU. In fact, the new group that everyone is clamoring to be a part of is the “Server Tech Blog Squad,” a group of individuals who are spearheading the company’s new blog efforts.
“We have always had a blog, but it has been a little bit limited with the number of people writing,” Jenny Petty, integrated marketing specialist at Server Technology, told TMCnet. “We wanted to revamp it and get more people involved because we have so many smart, great people on staff. We want to let them have an outlet where they can share things they are learning about the industry or opinions they have about trends going on.”
“Everyone is really excited and they are taking some liberties with the blog that they haven’t done before,” she added. “It’s fun to see the creativity that’s coming from it and getting those different voices writing.”
From catchy titles such as “Back when I was your age,” to “Data Centers In Film. Why Can't Hollywood Get It Right?” to “The Data Center Power Hunger Games,” all the blogs on the Server Technology site explore trending, popular topics and put a data center power spin on the posts. From the very technical posts about how to solve concrete problems to the thematical pieces about what sales engineers are seeing in the field and hearing on the trade show expo floors, the blog will cover all that is relevant when it comes to managing, measuring and monitoring power in the data center to guarantee energy efficiency and maximum uptime. The blog features a new post each day and writers range from sales engineers to IT gurus to marketing leaders to executive folks.
While the ultimate goal is certainly to increase readership and share knowledge from Server Technology’s staff about data center power trends, the company is also looking to engage with its customers and prospective customers in a way in which customers are comfortable – social media.
“We believe that we need to communicate with our customers in any way they want to be communicated with,” Julie Brown, marketing manager for Server Technology, told TMCnet. “For some of our customers, that is picking up the phone and talking with them. For others, it is the things that we do with social media. With the blog, we are just responding to what the marketplace is really asking us for.”
“Historically, data center managers feel more comfortable blogging or commenting on things; they are not a group that is comfortable being out there in articles and being a face or a name in the industry,” she said. “This is a comfortable place for them to weigh in with their knowledge and hopefully we are putting topics out there that are interactive or something that they will want to comment on.”
