Hundreds upon hundreds of company representatives might be flocking to Cisco (News - Alert) Live! this week to attend educational and training sessions and to showcase their cutting-edge solutions, but for Server Technology the show has extra meaning as the company tailors its data center power solutions around key Cisco offerings.
“The majority of our customers rely on Cisco solutions to run their data centers, so it’s important that we provide the power management solutions to support them and help them better manage and control their power-related expenses,” Julie Brown, marketing manager for Server Technology (News - Alert), told TMCnet in regards to Server Technology’s Cisco solution offerings.
At the event this week, taking place in San Diego, Calif., from June 10-14, Server Technology – a provider of data center power distribution units – will be demonstrating its two key solutions: one for the Cisco Nexus 7000 and for the Cisco UCS Network.
For the Cisco Nexus 700s, Server Technology specifically designed a 50/60A 3-phase Smart Cabinet Power Distribution Unit (CDU). Sentry CS-6HD/HY products provide a NEMA locking outlet solution for high density applications found in network cabinets. Moreover, these CDUs provide reliable three-phase power distribution combined with local and remote power monitoring and environmental monitoring capabilities over IP, according to officials.
The smart PDU will be under the spotlight at Cisco Live!, officials said.
One of the chief differentiators of the PDU is that when you use the PDU to power the Nexus 7000 Chassis, you can significantly lower infrastructure costs.
“You’ll need fewer power whips, fewer breaker positions and use less copper; so it’s an incredibly economical solution,” Brown said. “Moreover, customers can also use the PDU network interface to view power, temperature and humidity. They’ll get current measurement with local LED displays, remote current and power monitoring with thresholds and alert/alarm notifications by email and remote environmental monitoring with temperature and humidity probes. Finally, these products provide a NEMA locking outlet solution – important for those high density applications found in network cabinets.”
“We’ve had overwhelmingly great response to this solution,” she added. “Customers are saving thousands of dollars by using this with their Cisco Nexus switches.”
Server Technology will also be spotlighting its Cisco UCS solution at Cisco Live!, a solution that is touted for boosting data center performance, reducing costs and enhancing efficiency. The Cisco Unified Computing System is a next-gen data center platform that couples computing, network, storage access and virtualization into a cohesive system. According to Server Technology, when power densities increase, it becomes imperative to ensure proper operations and redundancy to ensure the success of server installations.
That’s where Server Technology’s solution comes in.
“Using a Server Technology PDU instead of running power in-feeds directly to the server can save customers thousands of dollars in installation and operational costs with fewer power drops, fewer power cords to the cabinets and less copper – all to lower infrastructure costs and total cost of ownership (TCO), which is the goal of the Cisco UCS Network,” Brown said.
Benefits of the Server Technology solution include remote current and power monitoring with thresholds, alarming, and SNMP/E-mail/SYSLOG notification and environmental (temperature/humidity) monitoring.
