Data centers are far more complex and difficult to manage than ever before. Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) is the integration of information technology and facility management disciplines to centralize monitoring, management and intelligent capacity planning of a data center’s critical systems.
A comprehensive DCIM solution provides data center professionals with the visibility of all data center assets along with their connectivity and relationships. DCIM solutions provide data center professionals with the ability to discover, visualize, model, control, report, predict and manage all physical data center assets including the ability to simply deploy new assets and plan capacity for future growth. DCIM solutions can also help control energy costs, reduce risks and increase operational efficiency.
Server Technology (News - Alert) is teaming up with RF Code and nylte Software to lead workshops that are designed to give attendees a better understanding of the current state of DCIM and to help them determine how to best evaluate and choose a DCIM solution.
“DCIM is here to stay,” said Mark Harris, vice president of marketing for Server Technology. “It extends the role of IT and facilities by enabling a comprehensive view of the entire IT infrastructure, above and below the raised floor. Previously, these two components were managed individually even though they shared a common goal. DCIM changes all of that. The idea that we can now look at all of the costs and processes associated with delivering a dynamic converged digital infrastructure is exciting.”
The workshop will hit Amsterdam Tuesday, June 26 with “Understanding DCIM: When is your Data Center ready for DCIM?” from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Users can register for the workshop here.
The second workshop in a series, “Understanding DCIM: What every data center professional needs to know,” will be held at the Regus Canary Wharf, located at One Canada Square, Canary Wharf, in Greater London on Thursday, June 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The workshops will cover the importance of DCIM, state of the art DCIM technologies and how to get started on your own DCIM journey.
Server Technology is one company that certainly knows a thing or two about DCIM solutions as the company partners with several DICM providers. The company teams with DCIM providers as a way to help offer Server Technology customers the most complete and robust monitoring solutions.
A DCIM solution offers many benefits including the fact that it provides the user with the “single pane of glass” view they want within their data center; that it can communicate with Server Technology’s CDUs and its competitors CDUs, and that users can input power and environmental information from the CDUs but not reinvent the wheel for discovery, inventory, configuration, upgrades and support of the STI CDUs which can all be done within SPM, according to company officials.
After seeing how successful three previous DCIM events were in the U.S., the companies have decided to take the workshop series overseas, according to Joan Osleeb, director of marketing for RF Code. Be sure to check out the workshop in London for the “best half-day seminar you’ll attend this year.”
