Server Technology (News - Alert) is a provider of data center power solutions, including the highest quality rackmount power distribution and monitoring solutions that help manage power capacity, reduce downtime and improve energy efficiency. Server Technology provides power management solutions to companies big and small, including the biggest names in servers, search, cloud, wired, wireless, finance and healthcare.
For its fifth year, the company is powering Interop (News - Alert), an independently organized conference and exhibition designed to empower information technology professionals to make smart business decisions, held next week, October 1-5 in New York City. The InteropNet network, built to support voice, video, and data for thousands of demanding attendees and sponsoring exhibitors, will be powered by Server Technology’s intelligent cabinet PDUs, which provide power management via IP, branch circuit protection, per outlet power sensing (POPSTM), remote and local input current power monitoring, environmental monitoring and serial console port access.
At Interop New York 2012, attendees can be sure to learn about and discuss the hottest topics currently in the industry, including everything related to the cloud, data center infrastructure management (DCIM) and big data.
As the select provider of PDUs, Server Technology has also installed Sentry Power Manager (SPM) in the InteropNet. SPM brings the entire network of intelligent PDUs to a central interface to provide a single view for power and environmental information. InteropNet will be utilizing devices from three locations in various facilities across the country, including the show site. Using SPM and POPSTM PDUs, all the PDUs on the InteropNet can be accessed globally from a single central interface, giving the InteropNet engineers access to device level power monitoring, management, power trends and alarms without having to login to the firmware of individual PDUs.
Bringing all the PDUs’ data to a single interface will allow for the calculation of efficiency metrics and establish faster notification and tracking of potential problems.
“We attend Interop for a few reasons -- one, it’s a great show with interesting topics and a good place for us to network. Two, for several years now, we’ve been chosen by Interop to be the exclusive provider of power distribution units for the InteropNet event network – we basically power the event,” said Julie Brown, marketing manager, Server Technology. “Interop brings in the right people for us to network with and the workshops cover interesting topics that are relevant to data centers today – power management & energy efficiency, big data and all sorts of cloud sessions.”
Those attending Interop can expect to see a good selection of Server Technology’s latest PDUs, especially its more intelligent products such as the smart and switched versions. Its smart PDUs allow users to monitor power, temperature and humidity levels through any Web browser, and gives users simple network management protocol (SNMP) alerts or e-mail alters when any of those things exceed thresholds that were previously assigned.
“Our overall message still remains that Server Technology engineers and manufactures the world’s most reliable rack level pdus – bar none. Customers just won’t find our incredibly high level of quality and performance anywhere else,” said Brown. “What’s new? We just released our newest version of SPM – featuring unique Predictive Trending Analytics functionality – it’s an amazing tool that lets data center managers ask the ‘what if’ questions and play out future scenarios in their data center to see what happens.”
Users can improve uptime and energy efficiency and simply prevent problems with this new tool. The newest version allows data center managers to take the predictive trending and overlay the power usage against the temperature to see what the effects are in a particular cabinet, which can help plan for cooling capacity, power requirements and look in the direction it’s going, as well as understand what will or will not work down the road.
