Server Technology (News - Alert) is a provider of quality rackmount power distribution and monitoring solutions that help manage power capacity, reduce downtime and improve energy efficiency. It offers a variety of cabinet power distribution units (PDUs), including basic, metered and smart PDUs. With Server Technology’s Smart Power Monitor, you can take any existing cabinet within your facility and retrofit it to provide intelligent power monitoring capabilities. By adding a device like Smart Power Monitor, users allow for a number of different monitoring capabilities, including understanding capacity planning, redundancy and three-phase load balancing.
“This product is the perfect solution for someone who is looking to add intelligent power monitoring to their data center cabinet, but don’t want to replace the existing cabinet PDUs,” said Brandon Siri, senior marketing representative, Server Technology. “Data center managers who are currently using basic or metered cabinet PDUs cannot view their racks’ total input power over the network since their cabinet PDUs don’t have that functionality built in, but when you add a Smart Power Monitor to the cabinet you can now take that circuit power information and display it over your network.”
Also known as “2 in-2 out,” the Smart Power Monitor adds intelligence (input load and power monitoring) to your not-smart power distribution units – to easily and affordably update your data center without replacing your existing PDUs.
The dual input, dual output Smart Power Monitor allows the ability to easily add input current load and power monitoring to any existing cabinet via an integral Web-based interface or through a serial connection. Now data center managers can easily add smart power monitoring intelligence to their existing high amperage cabinets without replacing their current CDUs.
“The Smart Power Monitor, or 2-in 2-out cabinet PDU, plugs into both Power Feed A and B,” explained Siri. “It also plugs into the basic or metered cabinet PDU that supports Feed A and the cabinet PDU that supports Feed B. By inserting the Smart Power Monitor into the power line to the cabinet PDU and plugging it into your network, you now have the power monitoring feature added to your cabinet without replacing anything. Using the intelligent built-in network card, you can also add temperature and humidity probes for environmental monitoring over the network as well.”
Typical applications for a device like this are with an existing cabinet that has basic or metered PDUs in it, where there is no intelligence in the cabinet.
“It’s the easy way to get the power monitoring you need without re-doing your entire rack,” said Siri. “The Smart Power Monitors come in a rackmountable 1U format. Any company can monitor its environmentals and power while maximizing each power circuit by realizing the current draw by adding a Smart Power Monitor to their existing infrastructure. We have seen a variety of customers using this type of product including large SANs, older data centers and data centers networking equipment racks.”
Server Technology has a variety of power configurations to choose from based on your input power. To learn more about the company and which power configuration works best for you, visit www.servertech.com.
