Today, the physical infrastructure layer of the data center is comprised of hundreds of hardware and software vendors including systems and network management software frameworks and the emerging category of asset management/DCIM providers, as well as the active hardware offerings from server, storage, networking and security vendors. Server Technology (News - Alert), a provider of data center power monitoring and management solutions, offers a Solution Partner Program, designed to promote the integration of its hardware and software technology with that of other industry leaders.
One of its solutions partners is RF Code, a provider of open and secure wire-free environmental and power monitoring and real-time IT asset tracking solutions that reduce the time and cost of discovering, tracking and monitoring IT assets and the environments in which they are located. Based on award-winning active RFID technology, solutions consist of asset tags and environmental sensors, active readers, and software managing the tracking and monitoring data.
RF Code and Server Technology have teamed up to release an integrated data center solution of RF Code’s wire-free Sensor Manager solution with Server Technology’s Sentry Power Manager (SPM) data center power monitoring solution via an SPM API integration. The solution makes it significantly easier to monitor and manage the factors that impact the efficient, fiscally-smart running of a data center, which can include power density, proper and continuous maintenance, design capacity, facility occupancy and power loading rate and site location.
Information gathered from RF Code's sensors flows into SPM software, providing a consolidated view of power and environmental data. RF Code monitors and sends SPM data about temperature, humidity and air pressure fluid detection, door open and close for greater security and trending and alarming related to temperature, humidity, air pressure and dew point.
"From the CIO and CFO down, everyone involved with data center and facilities operations is concerned about the rising cost of power and cooling and the impact environmental conditions can have on data availability or uptime - whether from a bottom line, availability, operations, risk or compliance perspective," said Richard Jenkins , vice president, marketing, RF Code, in a statement. "This solution empowers executive and operational decision makers to make critical financial and business continuity decisions to increase data center efficiency."
Server Technology recently updated SPM to version 5.2, which now features predictive analysis and revamped trending capabilities to help maximize power efficiency. The predictive trending analysis feature uses various cabinet traits to enable IT to view and analyze past and future power-related data, essentially presenting IT with a valuable diagnostic tool. The trending capabilities available in SPM 5.2 are an example of how Server Technology is working to make power-related information more valuable and useable for IT. IT can configure SPM 5.2 to send an alert in the event a certain condition is trending to exceed a threshold, taking the guesswork out of the equation.
RF Code’s Sensor Manager works with RF Code’s wire-free environmental sensor tags to provide real-time monitoring and alerting about the environmental conditions surrounding assets in dense spaces such as data centers. Using this wire-free solution, customers have the maximum deployment flexibility needed to monitor critical asset conditions at an extremely attractive price point.
"Our joint integration advances our belief that the best of both worlds is often found by combining the best of solutions," said Calvin Nicholson, Server Technology's senior director of software and firmware. "RF Code's differentiated, wire-free solution maps perfectly to our emphasis on intelligent monitoring of the power that affects usage, efficiency and cost. We share this view of capable simplicity, which is demonstrated in the solutions we together bring to market."
