Cadence Design Systems (News - Alert), a provider of electronic design automation solutions, enhanced its cooperation with Intel Corporation by extending its support to enable Intel's 14nm Tri-Gate design platform for customers of Intel (News - Alert) Custom Foundry.
Intel Custom Foundry's 14nm design platform for system-on-chip is targeted at cloud infrastructure and mobile applications. The platform uses 3-D Tri-Gate transistors that enable chips to operate at lower voltage with lower leakage, enabling better performance and efficient energy consumption.
"Our collaboration with Cadence on tools and low power memory interface IP will allow our customers to take advantage of Intel's 14nm design platform and design differentiated products for their markets" Ali Farhang, vice president of Design and Enablement Services at Intel Custom Foundry, said in a statement.
"We are working together to ensure joint success of our customers," added Farhang.
Cadence and Intel have teamed for custom/analog flow, including Spectre APS, Virtuoso Schematic Editor, Virtuoso Layout Suite and Virtuoso Analog Design Environment for the 14nm Tri-Gate process. The companies are also collaborating on the development of the Cadence digital flow featuring Encounter Digital Implementation System, QRC Extraction Solution, and Tempus Timing Signoff Solution.
Both the companies believe that their combined force will help them deliver the best design flows, which their customers can leverage.
Cadence LPDDR4-3200 PHY IP is backward compatible with LPDDR3 memories and supports package on package (POP) and memory on PCB systems, making it ideal for the mobile market, which demands high memory performance, low power, low cost and compact systems.
For Intel Custom Foundry's 14nm Low Power design platform, Cadence will be delivering LPDDR4-3200 PHY. With data rates of up to 3200Mbps and a 1.6 GHz memory clock, its advanced memory PHY IP is noted to realize the full capabilities of LPDDR4 technology.
"Our deeper collaboration with Intel on tools and IP for 14nm follows the enablement of Cadence custom/analog tools on Intel Custom Foundry's 22nm design platform, which has already been successfully used to design customer products," Nimish Modi, senior vice president of marketing and business development at Cadence, said in a statement.
"Intel's growing customer base is already using our tools, and they can now leverage Intel's 14nm Tri-Gate process to build even more innovative products," Modi added.
The Intel 1 to 16 Gbps SerDes is a complete foundry offering. It includes extensive integration, test configuration and system simulation models. While the power, performance and area targets have improved to have other features such as ease of integration, orientation flexibility and protocol configurability.
