Intrado Intros Emergency Assist Solution in the U.S.

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Intrado (News - Alert) has introduced its Emergency Assist solution in the United States, saying that this new service enables a wireless carrier to quickly locate a mobile device even when it is not in use by the subscriber.

With Emergency Assist, wireless carriers can quickly and effectively locate a mobile device whether it is in idle mode or active use. Company officials said that this automated solution “significantly” simplifies the location request process, aiding emergency responders in their ability to rapidly react to a situation where the wireless caller can't be reached.

Dami Hummel, vice president and general manager at Intrado, noted that wireless carriers receive a significant number of requests from law enforcement to locate a mobile device when it is in “idle” mode.

Today, this is a very manual process that can take up to two weeks to complete, Hummel said, adding that “with Emergency Assist, that time can be reduced to a matter of seconds.”

Intrado’s newest offering enhances the capability of law enforcement, enabling it to respond to potentially life threatening situations in a timely manner.

Company officials said that if a person’s mobile phone needs to be located quickly, that person’s carrier can input a phone number into the automated Emergency Assist tool. And, the tool generates the latitude and longitude and a map of the phone’s location.

“It is important to note that Emergency Assist follows the subpoena process and only provides such service at the request of law enforcement officials,” Hummel said. “But now, the carriers can comply with these requests more quickly, with fewer resources and improved location accuracy.”

Earlier last year in December, Intrado introduced Emergency Assist in Canada.

Intrado, a subsidiary of West Corporation, aims to save lives and support the needs of public safety. Agencies and telecommunication services providers throughout the world depend on Intrado for emergency communication services and technology.

Earlier this month, Motorola (News - Alert) Solutions formed a strategic alliance with Intrado to focus on providing Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1)-ready solutions to public safety agencies.
