Is Your Enterprise E911 Ready for Worst Case Scenario?

By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Managing Editor

Right now, people all over the east coast of the United States have disaster responses in the front of their minds. As Hurricane Sandy bears down on the homes of millions of people, they wonder about their own safety and security, and hope that if they do need to call upon emergency responders, everything will work out smoothly and without issues.

In the case of enterprises, they need to concern themselves with E911 hosted solutions to ensure that they are, indeed, ready in case disaster strikes.

These companies need to be concerned with issues like the “bring your own device” trend. Workers are spread out all over the land and it is essential that their locations are properly reported to emergency responders in case something goes wrong.

In addition to safety issues, there are liability concerns for large companies. Like the person who has no flashlight or bottled water in the wake of Sandy, many enterprises are not prepared to deal with next-generation 911 concerns.

In the case of companies that use PBX (News - Alert) or IP-PBX systems, they need to rely on third parties to provide E911 hosted solutions. These solutions help ensure that accurate location information is sent to the proper public safety answering point in the event of an emergency.

Companies like 911 ETC (News - Alert) provide these types of solutions which give safety and peace of mind to companies.

Businesses that are interested in this topic should listen to Mark Fletcher from Avaya (News - Alert), an expert in this area. He is conducting a talk on the “Roadmap and Best Practices for E911 in the Enterprise.” It will be held in New York and New Jersey on November 7 and November 14 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
