Gem County Implements Smart911

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Smart911, a nationwide protection database from Rave Mobile Safety, has been put in place by Gem County officials. Gem County citizens can now practically safeguard their families vigilantly with Smart911, thereby improving public protection services.

As part of Smart911, citizens are urged to generate a Safety Profile for their families for no extra cost at the official website. The profile will include relevant information that can be used by the emergency response team during a crisis. During an emergency, when the citizen calls 9-1-1, the response team will have instantaneous access to the citizen’s Safety Profile. This will ensure an improved perception of the caller, their location and circumstances, resulting in a faster response.

In a statement, Lisa Resinkin, Dispatch supervisor at Gem County said, "Having more information is an immeasurable benefit to emergency responders and we encourage citizens to create a Smart911 Safety Profile. What citizens may not realize is that we receive very little information on their incoming 9-1-1 call, especially if it is made on a mobile phone. If they are unable to communicate the information we need, their profile can provide those vital details and our response teams can be dispatched to the correct location with the correct information to assist them."

The Safety Profiles can comprise details of the entire family including pictures, medical details or conditions and disabilities along with particulars of house, vehicles and pets. The response teams in the field can therefore access information from the profiles relevant to the emergency. If a child is missing, the picture of the child included in the profile will prove to be useful. Similarly, in the case of a fire, the fire crews will have an idea regarding the number of people staying at the place along with the locations of the bedrooms etc.

Tom Axbey, president and CEO of Rave Mobile Safety said, "By deploying Smart911 and urging citizens to create a Safety Profile, Gem County is demonstrating their commitment to delivering the most effective emergency services possible to area citizens. Municipalities are realizing how detailed information can dramatically improve emergency outcomes, and as this public/private partnership expands, we can look forward to increased public safety across the entire country."
