RedSky VP Maier To Address E911, Crisis Situations at VoiceCon

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

RedSky (News - Alert), a Chicago-based E911 provider, is attending VoiceCon in Orlando, where the company’s senior vice-president, Nick Maier, will speak during a breakout session Tuesday on “IPT in E911 and Crisis Situations.”

The show is an opportunity for leaders of enterprises, schools, hospitals and other organizations to learn about enhanced 911 technology, as well as for visitors to RedSky’s booth at the show to get up to speed on the latest E911 offerings.

“In 2009, RedSky added three new products to our product line,” Maier told TMCnet in an interview, noting that “We now have cost-effective E911 products for every enterprise.”

The company’s E911 Anywhere Hosted product “brings E911 to any PBX (News - Alert)or telephone switch with a hosted service offering that requires no equipment or software purchase,” Maier said, adding that their RedBox product is “a low-cost E911 appliance that enables E911 compliance in as little as 48 hours.”

The company has also expanded the capabilities of their flagship E911 Manager product, company officials say, adding new capabilities to support WiFi (News - Alert)phones, SIP phones, UC clients and smartphones.

VoiceCon officials say “there are two key two issues facing every enterprise: How to select and build the IP Telephony platform that is right for your enterprise; and how to use it to improve how your organization does business. “

The event is organized to “help you address those two fundamental concerns,” organizers say: “VoiceCon is designed to help you decide why, when and how to invest in this new technology, and how to use your enterprise communications platform for maximum advantage.”

Earlier this year TMC’s (News - Alert)Michael Dinan reported that RedSky completed “a series of interoperability tests conducted by a nonprofit group that defines requirements and standards for effective and accessible 9-1-1 services in North America.”

Company officials claim RedSky is “the only enterprise 9-1-1 location product provider to participate in the tests,” which were conduct by the National Emergency Number Association at the nonprofit’s Industry Collaboration Event.

E911 is a technology that uses location-based services to help emergency responders find the exact whereabouts of distressed 9-1-1 callers – “a time-saving effort that’s designed to save lives as well as property,” as Dinan writes:

“The technology is especially useful in large-campus structures – such as enterprise offices, universities, schools and hospitals – where a single street address may refer to a physical structure with multiple buildings, floors and rooms. More and more states are legislation that requires enterprises to address E911 needs.”

RedSky will be exhibiting at VoiceCon in Booth 404.
