Markets are inundated with mobile devices and smartphones, mobile apps are becoming a rage and yet a YouGov study shows that business travelers don't really exploit many of these apps to their fullest potential and prefer to stick with only certain apps while traveling, missing out on the benefits that some of them can really give.
The online survey, commissioned by travel and expense company Concur, was conducted among 1,024 business travelers with fieldwork having been undertaken between 23rd and 25th July 2012.
Although mobile apps appear to be popular with the vast majority, in actuality the study indicates that almost 39 percent that travel regularly to work don't use them. And, among the business travelers that do use mobile apps on the road, Google (News - Alert) map apps and social networking apps seem to be all time favorites.
This is possibly because both Google maps apps and social networking apps serve the limited purpose of getting to places quickly and remaining in touch with family and friends.
Going beyond this, although 77 percent of respondents complained of “unproductive moments” while on the move, they rarely used apps that helped to save time and boost productivity. Expense reports are perennial pain points, yet very few app-using business travelers downloaded apps that could help manage their expenses quickly and efficiently whilst on the road.
Even airline apps and airport information apps were not used as much as they should have been by business travelers.
Isabel Montesdeoca, general manager and senior vice president for Concur EMEA, commented on the situation and noted that Concur had mobile apps that help business travelers before, during and after travel.
The Concur mobile app, she observed allows business travelers whose companies use the Concur travel and expense management solution to book or amend travel, and do their expenses from wherever they are.
Montesdeoca further added that Concur is committed to making the business travel process as quick, easy and productive for people that spend time out on the road and is using the power of the mobile to make this happen.
