The enterprise mobility sector is having its own version of a dot-com boom with a growing cloud of startups creating services to manage everything from security to file-sharing to software. The surge is no surprise considering the rapid adoption of BYOD policies, along with their inherent pros and cons for companies and employees. As with any gold rush, it’s hard to wade through the high number of startups to find the best, and experts have been helpfully rating and ranking the best. Two months ago Business Insider listed its selection of the seventeen hottest enterprise mobile startups, and earlier in 2013 Venture Beat cataloged its top twelve choices from presenters at an industry conference.
While nearly every selectee on these lists is based in the U.S. – perhaps because venture capital is more available, or perhaps because of market connections – a rising contingency of international developers is stepping into the ring. The Indian edition of Informationweek recently profiled three of India’s rising stars in enterprise mobility solutions who are on track to make the leap to the international market. India has embraced technology wholeheartedly, growing the sector from 1.2 percent of the gross domestic product in 1998 to 7.5 percent in 2012. Entrepreneur listed Bangalore, India – rich with local talent and community support – second on its list of hubs to watch for international startups.
The three profiled startups solve problems inherent to all IT managers dealing with BYOD oversight.
Peregrine 7, from i7 Networks, is a scalable, “device agnostic” solution that firewalls both mobile devices and corporate networks. The product is a robust package of security which doesn’t require any installation on the device, prevents infected devices from connecting to the network, and has a patent pending system of fingerprinting devices.
Deltecs Infotech is starting to reach out to a global audience with Drona Mobile, an information and education app enabling the business to create interactive content, push it to employees and track effectiveness. A second solution in development, TeamGum, creates a shared live feed of reading suggestions for passing along articles and links to colleagues.
eSimply Office focuses on office app solutions, creating a user profile stored both on the device and corporate network. It gives companies control of which office apps are installed on a device and acts as a launcher for common document formats. The Android (News - Alert) version is currently offered as freeware and its popularity has motivated the company to begin development for other operating systems.
