SOTI Inc., a provider of enterprise mobility management (EMM) and bring your own device (BYOD) policy management solutions, recently announced that its MobiControl Android (News - Alert)+ technology has enabled its Android OEM partnerships to grow 300 percent year-over-year, expanding to over 35 Android device manufacturers worldwide. The technology is designed to enable Android device manufacturers to effectively handle device fragmentation and enhance the security of Android in the enterprise.
In a statement, Carl Rodrigues, president and CEO of SOTI, said “Android device manufacturers are standardizing on SOTI's Android+ technology. They no longer have to change their operating systems to achieve security and enhanced management on their devices. This saves them precious resources and speeds their entry into the lucrative enterprise market. The rapid growth in OEM adoption of SOTI Android+ is evidence of SOTI's commitment to working with our partners to deliver deep cross-platform support. SOTI Android+ enables our Android partners to provide the same level of security and management as Apple (News - Alert) iOS, Windows and other operating systems.”
Android currently powers more than 80 percent of all smartphones across the globe. As a consequence, Android devices are becoming an integral part of the enterprise culture, particularly with the increasing adoption of BYOD policies. This trend is becoming a major concern for EMM vendors, as there are limited numbers of security APIs available for Android devices, with security measures varying between different device manufacturers. OEMs are thus working to combat the situation by creating their own APIs for EMM vendors, who in turn can build tools compatible with each device.
SOTI technology is designed to address this very concern through proactive partnerships and planned technology integration with leading Android OEMs, providing consistent security measures across various Android devices. This enables OEMs as well as organizations to drive the development of enterprise mobility management technology. The integration of MobiControl Android+ technology with Android devices enables device manufacturers to widen their reach with enterprise-ready devices.
The Android+ technology can detect and restrict malicious elements from entering the enterprise network by added an extra layer of defense mechanisms to the embedded security features provided by OS developers. SOTI says it is currently the only EMM vendor providing high-security management features for Android devices, which include lockdown/kiosk mode functionality, real-time remote helpdesk, geo-fencing, web content filtering and anti-virus prevention.
Eric Klein, senior analyst at VDC Research, said, "The industry is ripe for an all-inclusive EMM solution for Android devices, with security being top of mind for enterprises across the board. SOTI's foresight of industry needs is aligned with VDC's anticipation that Android deployments in enterprise settings will increase as mobile-first ISVs have sharpened their focus on the mobile platform and have developed highly secure solutions that have made Android suitable for corporate environments."
