Ethernet Extender: The Benefits of Ethernet Services

TMCnet Web Editor

When it comes to running a business, access to information is very important. Companies around the world greatly depend on the reliability of Ethernet services that allow them the flexibility of obtaining access to needed information.

The good old days of filing away information with the use of cabinets or shelves are being done away by computers that make it easy to store, manage, retrieve and transmit information. Besides giving increased efficiency to businesses, computers save companies’ money and time; no more piles of paper or filing cabinets cluttering your office space.

Sharing information is simple with Ethernet, all you need is a network of two or more computers together to establish a connection directly or an indirectly via a ethernet extender; which enables you to send and receive information from another computer. There are two broad groups—Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN).

The difference between the two is a LAN-based solution is confined to one building or multiple buildings close to each other while WAN-based solutions are used to connect devices that can be located miles apart. A LAN-based solution is much faster than a WAN-based solution; and Ethernet is one of the most popular technologies used to implement LANs today.

Ethernet services best work for any type of business who demands a certain size bandwidth. With today’s higher demand in bandwidth usage, Ethernet has risen from the more traditional 10 Mbps (megabytes per second), to something more demanding like 100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet), and or 1000 (Gigabit Ethernet) Mbps.

This new flexibility allows enterprises to scale its Ethernet implementations as the bandwidth needs grow. Ethernet has evolved from the LAN technology to a cost-effective, scalable and flexible solution for enterprises of all sizes.

Even though businesses are usually the ones with a need for this increased bandwidth, average consumers are beginning to show more of a need as well. With the emergence of netbooks, laptops and set-top-boxes (like Google (News - Alert) TV) – average households can easily demand more bandwidth, more than a small business would. As the bandwidth needs grow from all sides of the spectrum, offering better flexibility through Ethernet becomes more vital.
