First Mile Communications, a provider of high-speed Internet access has announced the expansion of its metro Ethernet service into Buckhead, Atlanta's preeminent business district. In conjunction with Southern Telecom, a subsidiary of Southern Company, the company uses the latest in fixed wireless technology.

According to a report in PR Newswire (News - Alert), Ben Easterling, business development manager for Southern Telecom said in a press release, “Having a Buckhead hub site enables First Mile to offer current and future customers an expanded footprint and coverage of additional buildings. The substantial number of buildings and businesses within reach of Tower Place through fixed broadband wireless is impressive and allows First Mile to offer our Wireless Lateral product to a much larger geographic area.”
On a 610,000 square foot landmark building located in the heart of Buckhead, First Mile will provide high-speed internet to customers to and from Tower Place. First Mile will provide broadband Internet connectivity where the speeds range from 3 Mbps to 200 Mbps to more than 7,700 businesses within a five-mile radius of Tower Place.
First Mile's solution uses the state of the art equipment to allow flexible high-capacity wireless links and complete route diversity from land-based telecommunications providers. This feature will be helpful especially in conditions like disaster recovery planning. The company’s metro Ethernet network now covers 14 of Atlanta's premier office buildings, representing approximately 8 million square feet of office space. Apart from "lighting" Tower Place, First Mile has also added One Buckhead Plaza and Prominence Buckhead to a growing list of served buildings that includes Colony Square, One Atlantic Center, Centennial Tower, Promenade II, Proscenium, 1100 Peachtree and 30 Allen Plaza, among others.
The company seeks to blanket metropolitan Atlanta with fast, reliable and secure internet services and establishing a Buckhead hub site is an important step in this direction. There are many customers for the scalable online solution offered by the company as Buckhead is the largest single-office market in Atlanta with a wide variety of firms.
