), a premier designer and supplier of next generation optical transport equipment for service providers and enterprise customers, has chosen to broaden its scope by venturing into the area of providing highly scalable Layer 1, 2 and 3 Ethernet switching and routing solutions.
In a press release, Rob Adams (News - Alert), Vice President of Global Marketing, Ekinops, noting that the new solutions represented a major expansion of Ekinops' capabilities, said, “Now Ekinops can address a far broader range of service provider, data center, and enterprise needs.”
The new solutions, which are Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert)-certified, afford operational simplicity and flexibility. Customers have the option to choose according to their switching, routing and transport capability needs. They can also decide what products to use for each application.
Commenting on this flexibility, Adams said, “If you have multiple applications, some requiring only Layer 1 transport or a mix of Carrier Ethernet and Layer 1 transport for instance, we now have the toolkit to meet your needs. And the same family of products can be used for data center applications or your own internal IT needs.”
The suite of Ethernet switching solutions when integrated with the superior performance of Ekinops' optical equipment provide integrated management capability and end-to-end service monitoring and provisioning.
Ekinops will be exhibiting the new solutions family at the WDM & Next Generation Optical Networking conference this week in Monaco. All of Ekinops’ new routing and switching solutions are now commercially available.
In related news, Bezeq (News - Alert), Israel's largest telecommunications service provider, has chosen Ekinops to provide optical transport equipment to connect key Bezeq sites in the north and south of the country. Bezeq is leveraging the platform's superior optical performance to maximize the capacity of its fiber network.
