NETGEAR h has designed industry’s first and only Gigabit Smart Switches specially designed for Small- to Medium-sized Businesses (SMBs). The switches GS724TPS and GS748TPS bring Gigabit connectivity, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and stacking onto the same platform making them more suitable for supporting converged networks.

NETGEAR designs branded technology solutions that address the specific networking, storage, and security needs of Small- to Medium-sized Businesses (SMBs) and home users.
The GS723TPS is a 24 port Gigabit smart switch which is high on value and capability and with 16 or 24 10/100/1000 Mbps ports, each switch is capable of powering 2000 Mbps of data throughput in full-duplex mode per port, plus two optional fiber ports, it provides fast backbone and connects servers or power users, delivering large amounts of multimedia, image, and video information in no time at all.
The GS748TPS is a 1U high, 48-port Gigabit smart switch which maximizes bandwidth and density for great value and capability. With 48 10/100/1000 Mbps ports, each switch is capable of powering 2000 Mbps of data throughput in full-duplex mode, plus four optional fiber ports, it provides a 96 Gbps backbone.
Both the smart switches have PoE capabilities on all ports and Auto Voice VLAN features which allow customers to easily set up the PoE-enabled IP phones and wireless access points wherever they want, without changing the wiring infrastructure. And also the first four ports on each switch can also support PoE+, based on the IEEE802.3at draft standards, providing up to 30W to higher-powered PoE devices such as multi-channel wireless access points, pan-tilt-zoomed IP cameras, and touch-screen IP phones.
NETGEAR states that SMBs are trying to make use of VoIP, wireless and other converged network technologies in order to enhance their productivity and streamline their networks. To do that they need advanced switching infrastructure that supports their needs now and in the future.
NETGEAR’ ProSafe GS7xxTPS Series of Advanced Gigabit Smart Switches meets these requirements to support key applications such as VoIP-based call centers, branch/remote offices and organizations with unified wireless and wireline networks. The GS7xxTPS series offers performance, ease-of-use, scalability, and reliability by supporting the right combination of features at an affordable cost.
NETGEAR states that the Smart Switch capability of the switches enables key management features for the value price of an unmanaged switch. Included with them are performance monitoring, port configuration, VLAN for traffic control, port trunking for increased bandwidth, and Class of Service (CoS) for traffic prioritization.
SMBs get higher QoS, robust security and high availability through the advanced features integrated into the switches such as access control lists (ACL), 802.1x port authentication, enhanced QoS, rate limiting and IGMP snooping, among others. An intuitive, Web-browser interface provides simple yet comprehensive management, making it a snap to fully realize the potential of the rich feature-set offered by these switches.
NETGEAR had recently introduced ReadyNAS Vault for individual consumers and SMBs and also had announced the expansion of its ProSafe FSM line of managed, Fast Ethernet switches.
