Ranking service providers with four percent or more of the retail business Ethernet market based on billable U.S. customer boards, Vertical Systems Group has released its “Mid-2009 Business Ethernet Leaderboards” report.
The top nine providers, in order, include AT&T, Verizon, tw Telecom, Cox (News - Alert), Qwest, Time Warner Cable, Cogent, XO and Level 3, according to the report from the Boston-based firm.
Additionally, more than 50 other providers deliver U.S.-based business Ethernet services. These providers include AboveNet, CenturyLink (the new company formed from the CenturyTel/Embarq merger), Charter Business, Comcast Business, Expedient, Global Crossing, Masergy, Optimum (News - Alert) Lightpath, Orange Business, RCN, Reliance Globalcom and Virtela.
“The first six months of 2009 showed healthy growth in U.S. Business Ethernet services, despite the soft market for telecom services overall,” said Rick Malone, a principal at Vertical Systems Group, in a press statement. “Lower cost metro services led the way as user enterprises continued to consolidate headcount into their metro campuses and local building clusters.”
Vertical’s latest share analysis also shows AT&T (News - Alert) garnered the largest share increase in the first half of 2009. Additionally, fewer than four share points separate Cox, Qwest, Time Warner Cable, Cogent, XO and Level 3, according to the report.
