Patton, a provider of business and carrier-class VoIP, network access, connectivity and video surveillance equipment, announced that it’s now taking orders for the SmartNode 5200 Enterprise Session Border Router.
The new SmartNode provides any-to-any protocol mediation for secure connectivity between IP-PBX (News - Alert) systems and Internet telephony service providers. Company officials said the product resolves the security and interoperability challenges businesses face when deploying SIP trunking.
The addition of an advanced IP router, QoS, VoIP-VPN security, call routing and IP-link redundancy reduces overall equipment costs, said company officials. Plus, there is no added licensing or support fees.
Protocol mediation in the SN5200 ensures operability among all SIP “flavors” for fast, easy SIP trunking setup, said company officials. ESBR features built-in virtual firewall that combines ACLs with policy-based routing, enabling it to provide an ideal security solution for enterprises up to 50 people.
Moreover for business with 50 to 250 workers, the SN5200 provides VoIP communications by processing forwarded SIP signaling messages to “SIP-enable” an external stateful firewall.
SIP Trunking has entered the mainstream, but it’s contributing major interop issues and serious security holes, said John Wu, VoIP product manager at Patton (News - Alert).
This offering builds on a history of success with Patton’s interop-certification program and secure VoIP VPN technology, Wu said.
“What sets the ESBR apart is the absence of hidden costs.”
The company said that during the second quarter, it will release a SN5400 ESBR that will feature a transcoder that maximizes voice quality by converting low-bandwidth ITSP CODECs to high-bandwidth CODECs within the LAN.
SmartNode delivers VoIP technology that integrates with existing analog POTS and digital ISDN infrastructures. It’s interoperable with all major brands of softswitches and IP-PBXs, making it easier for carriers and enterprises to deploy future-proof VoIP systems quickly, said company officials.
In November, Patton announced that its SmartNode 4638 Multiport BRI So Gateway (News - Alert) Router received the “2009 INTERNET TELEPHONY Excellence Award” from TMC’s INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine.
