It's a Fax over IP World, but FaxCore Thrives

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Would it surprise you to learn that in these days of FoIP there’s a vendor who still does a lot of business with analog lines, PRI and T1 digital?

It shouldn’t. FoIP is growing fast, sure, but some customers aren’t fully VoIP and UC capable. Plus many customers will be implementing VoIP in the near future but need to have analog now, and need a vendor who can work with them on that.

Officials of FaxCore (News - Alert)see that one of their special selling points – the ability to migrate easily from legacy to IP and UC.

And it’s a good place to be – UC service revenues will rise to reach over $17 billion by 2013, a new study by market research firm In-Stat (News - Alert) has found.

According to the report, “Global Unified Communications Emerges from the Cloud,” there are two trends that are really working to enhance UC and spur its uptake in the marketplace.

As TMCnet’s Stefania Viscusi reported recently, “first, SIP Trunking has become a key cost-saving mechanism that is capable of bringing together UC and enriching communications for businesses, customers and suppliers. The wireless industry is also helping to increase the popularity of UC as higher data rates are being offered and as UC is being extended to the smartphone and other wireless devices.”

IP Telephony continues to be the fastest growing segment in the Enterprise Voice market, a new report from Synergy (News - Alert) Research Group notes.

According to their report on 4Q09 and year-end market share for 2009, Viscusi has written elsewhere, the worldwide enterprise voice market totaled just under $10 billion for the full year:

“As network upgrades climbed in the second half of 2009, the market saw ‘solid improvement’ despite a year-over-year fall of over 25 percent, the research found.

“The market in 2009 also remained rough with economic challenges continuing to tighten customer spending and as competition increased.

“According to Synergy Research’s findings, IP Telephony represented nearly 70 percent of the total telephony market, with the remainder comprised of the legacy markets of PBXs and KTS.”
