The fax industry experienced a number of intriguing changes over the last year including advancements in the fax-over-IP and Smart FoIP sectors. Some fax providers made adjustments to their product offerings while also trying to address the challenges of the growing cloud-based and hosted solution realm. Among the organizations making changes, Roto Rooter, a drainage and plumbing service provider, experienced the discontinuation of its fax service: IBM’s (News - Alert) Domino Fax for i.
What to do? Roto Rooter was steered in the direction of Quadrant Software by IBM, who had, until mid-2011, provided the platforms for sending and receiving documents from Roto Rooter’s email client. Steve Woodard, CEO for Quadrant Software, mentioned in an interview, “When support for IBM’s Domino Fax for i product was removed from the market, IBM recommended Quadrant Software to Roto Rooter as a replacement solution. Roto Rooter had used Quadrant Software’s Formtastic product at their Des Moines location to generate electronic documents and was very happy with the solution and the support they received.”
Choosing FastFax from Quadrant enabled Roto Rooter to transition seamlessly from its previous IBM service to FastFax for secure document transmission. But Roto Rooter is not the only company that faced the challenge of what to do when Domino Fax for I left the scene.
Woodard mentioned, “The biggest challenge is that [Domino Fax for i] will no longer be supported as of April 2012, so users need to find replacement solutions.” Roto Rooter’s transition to FastFax was made simple by Quadrant so users were unaware of the software switch-up. Woodard added, “Also, there was no programming required – so it was the easiest solution to the problem.”
In a release regarding the movement Roto Rooter made earlier in 2011, officials from the company mentioned that they now depend on the software from Quadrant to “receive and distribute orders, POs, and other crucial customer correspondence.”
