There are those out there who think that the fax machine is a dead communications tool, on par with the electric typewriter. But for those who use fax every day, those who use fax over Internet protocol (FoIP), the technology is every bit as vital as any computer. Recently, Quadrant Software unveiled a new SAP (News
- Alert) connector—QuadraConnector—designed to connect QuadraDocV with SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, making document distribution via FoIP a lot faster and a lot handier.
Previously, using faxing with ERP systems had been limited largely to FastFax, and depended on a substantial amount of "black box" hardware including fax cards and a huge amount of cable. The launch of QuadraDocV, however, became not only a way to improve the nature and responses of FoIP, it also became a critical component involved in improving ERP systems. With QuadraDocV in place, QuadraConnector could then come into play, which it did just recently, and provides a critical link in terms of document distribution.
With QuadraConnector, the documents created by SAP users could then be more readily input into QuadraDocV. With that simplified step, routing documents becomes a lot easier. Additionally, incoming faxes can be automatically sent to the SAP system, which allows users to get access to those documents from within the SAP environment. Documents can be basically handled, sent out, and received all within that single environment. Better yet, since the QuadraConnector system uses simple mail transfer protocol—STMP—to handle its document distribution functions, the system will work in most any kind of SAP environment on a huge array of different platforms.
Perhaps best of all, QuadraConnector's power doesn't stop with faxes. Thanks to QuadraDocV, the whole system can be used to process all kinds of documents and distribute them with equal proficiency, e-mailing and formatting documents. The fax provider is also working on the next version of QuadraDocV, which will improve things still further.
Clealy fax still has a lot of life left in it and is continuing to be revamped to make it even better and more valuable for businesses. This old technology made new again has a lot of room yet to grow, and seeing just what else will come online for it should be interesting to say the least.
