Recently, RingCentral spoke with TMC (News - Alert) about this past year, what customers can expect from them and what’s in store for 2009:
Looking back at 2008, how would you characterize the year for your company?
This year was another year of high growth highlighted by expansion to UK in partnership with British Telecom (BT (News - Alert)).
What were the key trends that impacted your business?
The economic slowdown highlighted the value of hosted communications for small businesses. RingCentral was unaffected by the current economic conditions as we have experienced record growth in Q3 of 2008.
A recent customer survey that we did reveals that the majority of small businesses (72 percent) are reducing overhead cost to work more efficiently during tight economic times. They are adopting flexible business services that enable employees to work from home, 50 percent of small businesses are reducing overhead costs by cutting back on business services, and 23 percent are reducing overhead costs by eliminating the cost of physical office space.
What was your company's biggest achievement in the past year?
RingCentral emerged as a small business telecom leader within the Cloud Computing market.
What are your customers looking for in the coming year?
Cost-effective services that will help them to survive the tough economic conditions.
What can we expect to see from your company in the next 12 months?
Continuing growth and new applications for mobile users.
Do you think a new administration in Washington, D.C. will be good for the communications industry? If so, how? If not, why not?
The economic recovery plan includes bringing broadband to rural areas that will expand need for cloud computing solutions, such as hosted PBX (News - Alert), to a new group of users.
In your view, please describe the future of the IP Communications industry?
Users in general do not care what transport technology the industry prefers. The IP transport will become complete transparent to consumers who will increasingly focus on value added services instead of the cost of a connected minute.
If you had to make one bold prediction for 2009, what would it be?
iPhone (News - Alert) and other smartphone devices will bring a new set of innovative mobile telecom applications specifically targeting the needs of small businesses.
