The Benefits of FoIP on the Microsoft .NET Framework

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Fax over Internet Protocol is gaining increased popularity throughout the global marketplace as more and more companies are moving to an all IP environment, yet still need the capabilities of fax communications. FoIP enables these companies to take advantage of the benefits of IP as well as fax to streamline communications.

To drive efficiency in this technology, many a FoIP solution is built on the Microsoft (News - Alert) .NET Framework. This platform has emerged as the ideal choice for companies seeking to upgrade faxing capabilities in a market being increasingly driven by smart devices while also integrating seamless with existing network systems to enable fast document delivery.

In addition to these benefits, FoIP built on a Microsoft .NET (News - Alert) Framework can also provide a reduced total cost of ownership as it easily integrates fax technology with data and voice traffic into a single network. With easy integration, a FoIP solution helps to leverage current investments, while also allowing for provision and management to occur remotely. This remote capability reduces costs, including expenditures related to user moves, adds and changes.

Such a FoIP environment can also deliver more efficient network utilization. When VoIP is in place, there are considerable gains in bandwidth efficiencies, which in turn reduce costs and increase quality of service. The integration of fax capabilities in to this environment leverages the benefits that VoIP delivers, including a reduction in redundancy and the production of efficient data throughput.

When FoIP is available on a .NET Framework, the enterprise can gain greater operational flexibility as this technology is more flexible and extensible than traditional analog-based fax. FoIP enables these communications to flow over the IP network so they can be delivered to the right person instantly, stored for use later in a searchable directory, changed and sent out again for further use, all completed in-house or from a remote smart device.

FoIP enables fast document delivery and 21st Century mobility services. A wide range of business software and functions can be fax-enabled, such as CRM, ERP, Exchange and e-mail. This ensures that the current technology investments the enterprise has already made can continue to deliver benefit while operating on a next generation platform.

The professional world is a smart device world and FoIP on a .NET Microsoft Framework enables fast integration with smart devices. Organizations can quickly realize the benefits of such technology environments and work FoIP into their overall network design to drive lower costs, increased efficiency and streamlined communications.
