Eighty seven percent of the world’s population has mobile subscriptions, 604 million users log-in monthly from mobile devices to Facebook (News - Alert) and 82 million users access Twitter via mobile per day. That’s a lot of data just on mobile devices and 90 percent of the world’s online data was created in the past two years. In order to analyze and take control of big data, an open source framework called Hadoop was created.
MapR Technologies, the open, enterprise-grade distribution for Hadoop, recently launched its European operation to meet the needs of its growing community of customers and partners across the region. The new European headquarters in London, England, will provide MapR with a base for technical and sales resources to accelerate the adoption of its high performance, enterprise-grade distribution for Hadoop.
Today, MapR Technologies revealed it appointed Steve Jenkins as its first VP for EMEA to lead its new European operation.
Jenkins, an experienced senior executive, has previously led European operations for Q1 Labs (acquired by IBM (News - Alert)), Isilon Systems (acquired by EMC) and F5 Networks. During his career spanning more than 20 years, Jenkins also guided the successful creation, growth and expansion of robust European market presence for Nortel (News - Alert) Networks, Bay Networks and Wellfleet.
“Demand for Hadoop is growing at a phenomenal rate across Europe and I welcome the opportunity to help MapR deliver technical and sales resources to support and grow both our channel and client base across the region,” Jenkins added in a statement.
MapR’s new office will help support existing strategic agreements between MapR and EMC (News - Alert), Google, Cisco and Amazon, as well as system integration partners across the region. The EMEA launch builds on a number of strategic activities that has helped to position MapR as a leader in enabling Apache Hadoop to become more reliable and easier to use for big data analytics and business intelligence.
MapR has also appointed Zeljko Dodlek as sales director, who joins the team following executive roles at RedHat, DataDirect Networks, Isilon Systems and NetApp. Dodlek is based in Munich, Germany and will primarily cover the DACH region.
Jenkins and the new European team will also support existing strategic agreements between MapR and EMC, Google, Cisco and Amazon as well as system integration partners across the region.
“The appointment of such an experienced European leadership team is essential for MapR to retain and expand its position as the clear leader in enabling Apache Hadoop to become more reliable and easier to use for big data analytics and business intelligence,” said John Schroeder, CEO and co-founder, MapR Technologies.
