Today, we are dealing with all different kinds of data files: structured, unstructured, logs, pictures, audio files, communications records, e-mail and more are all dealt with and transferred over networks every day. Hadoop was created to analyze different types of big data, however, it is complex to deploy, configure, manage and monitor. Before deploying a Hadoop cluster, things to consider including operating systems, computation, memory, storage, network, switches and data movement in and out of the cluster.
MapR Technologies Inc., a provider of Hadoop distribution for the enterprise, recently collaborated with HP to develop, configure and test a Reference Architecture for big data workloads built on HP ProLiant Generation 8 (Gen8) servers, which continuously analyze thousands of system parameters to optimize application performance, proactively improve uptime and give insight into every aspect of IT infrastructure. With the servers, IT is able to derive new business insights from big data through a platform to store, manage and process data at scale.
MapR Technologies tested the platform using industry standard benchmarks that validate the ROI and performance. The combined testing also validated the resiliency, high availability and data protection capabilities, including snapshots and mirroring of the MapR Distribution.
