Supermicro, a provider of application-optimized server, workstation, blade, storage and GPU systems, has launched big data solutions with support for the new Intel (News
- Alert) Distribution for Apache Hadoop Software. To meet these requirements, Supermicro’s Hadoop-optimized server and storage systems have undergone rigorous testing and validation.
The new storage solutions are designed to address the growing big data challenges. According to Boyd Davis, VP and general manager of the Datacenter Software Division of Intel, enterprises looking to deploy big data applications that need a platform that delivers performance, reliability and ease of deployment.
"The Supermicro solutions for big data optimized with the Intel Distribution for Apache Hadoop software deliver hardware-enhanced performance and security along with the simplicity of an integrated solution," Davis added in a statement.
The new Hadoop-optimized systems include the ultra-efficient, 4U FatTwin SuperServer F617H6-FTL+ systems, which achieve up to 20 percent less power consumption compared to industry standard 1U Hadoop systems.
The 4U supports four nodes with 12 3.5-inch hard drives plus two 2.5-inch drives each. The latest FatTwin system delivers unsurpassed system power efficiency and the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) available. It features front-side I/O and redundant Platinum level (94 percent +) power supplies.
Supermicro's new SuperChassis 847D supports over 200TB of storage capacity, 72 external, hot-swappable 3.5-inch SAS2 or SATA3 hard drives in 4U. It also features two 2.5-inch internal drive trays for convenient operating system (OS) installation on either solid-state drive (SSD) or hard disk drive (HDD) devices.
With these features, the new storage server chassis doubles the hot-swap storage density and still maintains high serviceability. The SC847D also comes with redundant Platinum level power supplies to provide the best reliability and power efficiency available.
