science + computing, a provider of IT services, solutions and software, is bringing the complete suite of Univa products and services to the DACH region through a reseller agreement.
The agreement enables science + computing to resell the complete Univa (News - Alert) product suite, including Univa Grid Engine, UniCloud and Univa License Orchestrator.
While the partnership enables Univa to cement its position in the countries like Germany, Austria and Switzerland, it allows science + computing to expand its own service offering for its core customers. The partnership will enable science + computing to integrate Univa Grid Engine with its Hadoop-based software solutions used in the complex computer environments in the fields of research, development and computation systems.
It will be relevant to mention here that Univa Grid Engine, Univa’s flagship product, is a distributed resource management platform that enables shared infrastructures under multiple workloads including Hadoop, a big data software framework that supports data-intensive distributed applications.
San Francisco-based healthcare company Archimedes Inc recently leveraged Univa Grid Engine and managed to save up to 50 percent of its capital expenditure while removing any need to invest in a separate cluster for Hadoop. It now optimizes its existing servers and computers, but the system is easily scalable at no additional cost.
“Our customers operate technical computing environments where infrastructure software like Univa Grid Engine is a key component. This partnership allows us to support our customers on all levels, giving them more options to use their compute clusters in the most efficient manner. Additionally, the possibility to integrate Univa Grid Engine with Hadoop systems opens up new opportunities to optimize the usage of Big Data installations,” CEO of science + computing Gerd-Lothar Leonhart explained in a statement.
This strategic partnership will allow Univa to take its products to a customer base that relies on HPC infrastructures, grid computing and big data solutions, including automobile manufacturers and suppliers, microelectronic component manufacturers, aerospace companies, chemicals and pharmaceuticals companies and scientific research facilities.
“The s+c team works with the world’s largest manufacturers and HPC environments, making them the perfect partner for us. Our partnership with s+c validates Univa’s solutions as core ingredients in the HPC and big data mix. The s+c team works extremely closely with their customers and therefore understands their requirements better than anyone else, so s+c are a natural partner for us,” said Rob Secontine, VP of sales and marketing, Univa, in a statement.
