Lantiq (News - Alert), a provider of broadband access and home networking technologies, has announced the expansion of its single-chip solutions to bring HD voice quality to 2.4 GHz cordless home phones.
The features of the new COSIC WDCT, a 2.4 GHz version of the company's DECT (News - Alert) solution, include wideband voice and low-rate data services. The company is targeting the cordless handsets market in Asia-Pacific countries and emerging markets that use this unlicensed frequency range for HD voice quality.
"With this addition to the COSIC product family, our customers can field a complete range of cordless voice products based on a common platform that offers unsurpassed performance and audio quality," said Rainer Spielberg, vice president of marketing for Lantiq, in a statement.
"In-home cordless plays an important role in the voice and data service customer experience,” Spielberg added. “With features such as wideband voice and low-rate data applications added to handsets, manufacturers can deliver products that clearly stand-out from the 'dumb' phones in common use today."
Being the first 2.4 GHz frequency cordless solution supporting wideband/HD voice quality and low-rate data application capability, the cordless phone has the immense potential to become a value-added component of a digital home, company officials said.
Features such as wideband coding and transmission and advanced acoustic echo cancellation can bring in HD voice quality for conversation and recording, including full duplex hands free speaking with HD sound.
Recently, HD Voice 2011, a report published by HD Voice News in association with TMC, found that significant growth is expected in HD voice over the next three years. This growth will be powered by technology offering to business, residential and wireless customers by Tier 1 service providers, such as Comcast (News
- Alert), France Telecom, Cincinnati Bell and Verizon.
