InsideSales.com (News - Alert) is a provider of cloud-based sales intelligence and productivity software for inside sales professionals. It was the first company to combine dialer technology in a hosted CRM, dramatically increasing productivity for Inside Sales departments and outbound call centers. Recently, the company raised $4 million from Hummer Winblad (News - Alert) in Series A round that the company will use to grow its big data analytics sales force automation (SFO) technology.

A Series A round is the name typically given to a company's first significant round of venture funding in the Silicon Valley model of startup company formation.

Mark Gorenberg, managing director, Hummer Winblad, said before the funding, the company was profitable and had not taken any investment. He said the company reminds him of Omniture (News - Alert), which the firm funded under similar circumstances. Omniture was also profitable when it accepted its investment. Omniture was acquired for $1.8 billion in 2009 by Adobe (News - Alert) Systems.

The InsideSales PowerDialer is the first hosted lead management tool for inside sales teams that sell by phone. With its built in dialer and voice messaging technologies, inside sales teams can quadruple productivity. With the PowerDialer, users can make calls without manually entering phone numbers, close more sales, measure results with timely metrics and clear analytics, leave pre-recorded voice messages so you can continue calling, triple or quadruple the amount of work sales reps can do in the same time and have easy and immediate integration.

The company serves small and medium sized companies. It uses predictive analytics to help serve inside sales professionals. Its algorithms are designed to tell the sales professional who to contact, when to contact and how to tailor the message for the sales target.

InsideSales is one of a growing number of startups to come out of Utah. The company is based in Provo, also where Qualtrics, the online marketing intelligence company, is located. Qualtrics raised $70 million in capital earlier this year from Accel Partners and Seqouia Capital.
