AuthenTec (News - Alert), a provider of security and identity management solutions, announced that its FIPS 201-compliant TCS1 TouchChip fingerprint sensors were selected for adding fingerprint identification capability to BI2 Technology’s new Mobile Offender Recognition and Identification System (MORIS).

MORIS is the world's first wireless, tri-modal biometric system on a smartphone. It helps police in the field quickly identify criminals, accident victims or lost or missing persons through three means of biometric identification: fingerprint, iris and facial recognition.

MORIS was included in Popular Science's “Best of What's New” listing as one of the 100 best innovations of 2010. The device is now entering mass production for shipment to police and law enforcement agencies in the U.S. The first production shipments of the MORIS devices will begin this fall.

AuthenTec’s TCS1 TouchChip module is mounted on the back of the MORIS mobile ID terminal. It allows police to capture high resolution (500 DPI) fingerprint images which are encrypted and transmitted for comparison against fingerprints of known criminals. The fingerprint technology helps law enforcement agencies catch criminals who have evaded them with the help of sophisticated forms of false identification.

Recently, AuthenTec announced that its AES1750 smart fingerprint sensor is included on three new Fujitsu mobile phone models available from NTT (News - Alert) DOCOMO: docomo PRIME series F-09C, docomo STYLE series F-10C and docomo SMART series F-11C.
