Xilinx (News - Alert), a provider of All Programmable FPGAs, SoCs and 3D ICs, has collaborated with Barco Silex, a certified Xilinx Alliance Program member, to introduce a platform that combines hardware-validated IP, reference designs and system integration services that support Xilinx's ALL Programmable FPGAs and SoCs. The goal of this collaboration is to ease video over IP solution development.
This initiative will offer broadcast equipment OEMs reduced product development times, while adding the latest video over IP capabilities to existing products, including those still in development.
“The broadcaster’s migration to IP-based infrastructures is complicated as industry standards are in a state-of-flux, which in turn puts pressure on equipment manufacturers to implement these emerging standards. Manufacturers can now benefit from a ‘one-stop-shop’ for a comprehensive FPGA-based platform to develop ‘future proof’ IP video solutions,” said Ben Runyan, director of broadcast and consumer segment marketing at Xilinx, in a statement.
He added that manufacturers will be able to leverage the reprogrammable nature of Xilinx's 7 series FPGAs to keep products in compliance with new standards — which would also speed up product development.
Xilinx's 28nm seven series programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) is comprised of three new families that address the complete range of OEM system requirements, spanning from low-cost, high-volume applications up to demanding high-performance applications. These devices are the backbone for Xilinx's Targeted Design Platforms (TDPs).
Barco Silex, meanwhile, serves as the system integrator in the collaboration. In other words, the company will integrate a range of its own IP cores, as well as IP cores from Xilinx — SMPTE 2022, SMPTE SDI, Ethernet MACs — while solving system integration difficulties in shared memory systems with multiple IP blocks.
Xilinx was also recently assigned a patent for an "integrated circuit assembly having vented heat-spreader," while last week the company launched a real-time video processing platform at IBC 2012 with Certified Xilinx Alliance Program Member, OmniTek.
